Back to School Guide

Overview

This Back-to-School guide offers tips and key resources to help you successfully leverage the various opportunities in your community during this time of year.

Some events may present an opportunity for traditional media outreach. Please reach out to Aquarius Williams if you’d like us to help coordinate media for an upcoming event at your restaurant.

If you’re getting stuck, don’t hesitate to use CKP as a resource! Please reach out to Aquarius Williams to brainstorm ideas and opportunities in your community.

If you think your store activation or city-wide initiative might be a fit for the North Texas social media channels, make a submission to CKP’s Story Submission Form. We love to share and amplify McDonald’s community investment across the North Texas communities!

Step 1: Where to Start

The first step is reaching out to local school administrators. This might include:

  • School administrators
  • School secretaries
  • District administration

Search online or ask your school contact about important dates like:

  • First day of school
  • Student orientation days
  • Teacher in-service days
  • Classroom set-up days
  • Parent/Meet the Teacher Nights

Step 2: How to Get Involved

  • Deliver Food

Offer to deliver and serve McDonald’s refreshments like breakfast sandwiches, snacks (apple slices, cookies) and coffee at a school event, such as Meet the Teacher night, teacher In-Service Days, the first day of school, etc.

  • Provide BOGs and/or Arch Cards

    • Order back-to-school-themed BOGs Note: BOG offers should be kid-friendly (Happy Meals, Apple Slices, Oatmeal, etc.) and can be “free with purchase.” If your restaurant or the school is in a low-income area, consider a free offer.
    • Support honor roll recognition with BOGs or Arch Cards
    • Support reading programs with BOGs or Arch Cards
    • Work with the school and/or teachers to identify an appropriate goal for each grade, such as “free Happy Meal when you read 1,000 pages or 10 books.
  • Support a Local School's Sports Teams

If you’re interested in partnering with or sponsoring teams at nearby schools, now is the time to reach out to the athletic director, booster club, and/or head coaches to discuss opportunities.

Host a McTeacher's Night

Host a McTeacher’s Night at your McDonald’s restaurant to raise funds for a nearby school and get to know local teachers as they serve their community alongside your staff.

Suggested roles/jobs:

  • Greeters
  • Donation collectors—one teacher at each door and one in Drive Thru (with safety vest) to collect cash donations
  • In-store meal delivery—delivering meals to tables in the dining room
  • Tidying the lobby—wiping down tables, occasionally sweeping, but no mopping

Before the event:

  • Ask the school to share details via their newsletter, PTO, social media, school bulletin, etc. Suggest that any digital promotion link to your restaurant's Facebook page.
  • Promote the event on your readerboard.
  • Print flyers for doors and Drive Thru windows.
  • Share event details with CKP for a pre-event post on your restaurant's Facebook page.
  • Request 10 teacher volunteers for the evening, ask for the shirt sizes of the teachers working and order special t-shirts via SmileMakers.

After the event:

Step 3: Keep Us In The Loop

Let us know what you’re doing in your local community by making a submission to CKP’s Social Media Request Form so that we can help promote your activities!

We love to include photos! Just make sure that all people photographed have signed this online photography waiver.

  • Examples of photos to include:
  • Your crew assembling meals
  • Teachers with meals and/or McDonald’s packaging
  • Crew wearing team colors the day of a big game
  • Store decorations
